JINS ASSIST

JINS ASSIST is a pair of glasses developed by JINS Inc. that allows users to control digital devices. Smartphones, PCs, tablets—these can all be operated intuitively through subtle head movements, without using one’s hands. From the very beginning of the project, we worked closely with the JINS team, conducting extensive user interviews and taking a comprehensive role in concept development, product design, UX/UI design, and brand design.

We hope that JINS ASSIST will expand possibilities for people with disabilities and contribute to bridging the digital divide for everyone.

01Concept Design

JINS ASSIST was developed to help close the so-called “digital divide” for those who have limited access to the benefits of digital technology. The project was sparked by the heartfelt desire of people who said, “I want to be able to communicate freely using a device.” Inspired by these voices and JINS vision of “Magnify Life,” we launched the initiative.

Through a series of user interviews, we discovered that for people who find conventional mouse operation difficult, what’s truly needed is an accessory-type device that can be controlled intuitively by head movement, is easy to pick up, and can be attached to any type of glasses. We carefully designed the product concept so that users can perform essential digital operations simply and reliably—using only the movement of their head.

02Product Design

In developing the product, we conducted repeated user tests to ensure that the design reflected real needs. From multiple perspectives—such as natural appearance, minimal burden, and ease of use—we worked to embody the idea of “a device that anyone can use effortlessly.”

Concretely, we made the main unit ultra-light at just 4g, so it could be worn comfortably even for long periods. By choosing a wired connection instead of wireless, we eliminated the hassle of charging and pairing. An attachment system allows the device to be fitted to various shapes of glasses people already own.

We also fine-tuned the sensor so that even small head movements could intuitively control cursor movement, clicking, and scrolling. To help first-time users learn the operation naturally, we designed the entire support experience as well—including an on-screen controller UI and tutorials.

03Communication Design

To ensure that the concept of JINS ASSIST reached society and those who truly needed it, we also focused on communication design. For the website, we built a UI that intuitively conveys the product’s value and usage, while also designing a UX that seamlessly guides users to purchase through the e-commerce platform. Our priority was to create a smooth experience where visitors can move from understanding the product to making a purchase without confusion.
